“Zeeën van tijd” – A Strong Start That Refuses to Waste a Second

Estimated read time 3 min read

“Zeeën van tijd”, the first single Kereltje has released with the help of fellow artists Emielio, is for us as personal as it gets. Straight to the point, no bullshit – if you can find the line between shouting at the world and into it, Kereltje and Emielio found it. Recorded at home with that same chilled yet focused aura, but also the big importance you can only find when it’s your first feature. Kereltje’s soft confidence on the beat we can only call laidback; a regular beat but with some boom, bap in it to let the two artists go in the smoothest way. It is clear that this track was not thrown together for a laugh.

The concept is about growing up, keeping it moving, and not wasting time on any bullshit. On top of that it’s a pretty clear-cut song, but the message is simple: Grow up, time is too short, use your energy on growing. Karel (aka Kereltje), who did the production on the song in addition to vocals, has his head on his shoulders. He is hip hop but also gets influenced by the Tupac, Nas, Slim and Biggie. He’s got his own style, yet we hear the attitude of speaking your truth as well. He’s got a nice balance with Emielio, who gives a much cleaner contrast with his voice that works perfectly. Overall two youngsters that go hard on things that matter to them, that many young people can actually relate to; whether you’re just fresh to this world or like us want to climb your way out of it.

If there is one thing that sets this single apart from a regular song though, it’s the connection between the two artists. It just doesn’t sound like they tried to hard, it just was. The concept and the beat were a match right from the start. We can tell, just in their voices they sound like they’ve seen the end of the chaos but still calmly know what they want and are still calm and steady. It’s a really nice one from two promising artists. They’ve only just begun, but this was already present in their first single.
