‘Lace Entanglement’ is a new EP by the Castelcucco-based solo artist _Shoe. Set to release on June 13th, 2025, it is a short collection of works that work as a prologue to the second season of the Devisal Story. The songs themselves emit a sort of quiet desperation. Written in the walls of the Devisal Studios and exploring the anguished mind of the character _Shoe, struggling to find a way out of the rotting husk of the digital world he is trapped in, they are a truly intimate experience. Vocals are by Stefano Francescato. ‘Lace Entanglement’ is a small project, but a poignant one. All of the sounds seem wrapped in memory, stitched together by code and emotion, an amalgamation of humanity’s grief and the apathy of machinery.
The title track, “Lace Entanglement”, begins with a quietly driving yet sparse and calculated instrumental as Stefano’s voice winds through quiet vulnerability and raw desperation. There’s a peacefulness to it, unnerving in the way every line spoken feels like it’s struggling through interference. The track itself almost deliberately doesn’t form the expected ebb and flow of a typical verse, chorus and drop. It doesn’t give itself time to breathe, only ever returning to the rise and fall of Stefano’s voice. The production is tight but not sterile, handcrafted but with an attentive love that makes it feel like every part of the song was assembled with intention. It’s not a song that calls to be danced to. It calls to be listened to.
The second track, “Lace Entanglement (nstrumental)” removes the lyrics from the song, but not the heaviness. With the vocal layer removed, the ear is more attuned to the mix itself; the subtle hums and micro-glitches, the soft thumping sound like the rhythmic electronic heartbeat of something on the verge of death. It feels like a memory of the first track, reverberating in an empty room. The two pieces work together to create a narrative of feeling seen and then deleted, a digital heart being crushed under the weight of a system unable to comprehend the desire to be human. With ‘Lace Entanglement’, _Shoe doesn’t just make art. He crafts experiences.
