Estimated read time 5 min read

Each album hits differently with the melodies and the beats taking center stage. The New Citizen Kane’s ‘The Tales of Morpheus’ encapsulates all emotion and feeling. This masterpiece of 21 tracks is not just an album but an autobiography depicting an artist’s life journey, tragedies, and triumphs, all while transforming sound into ‘sonic gold’. Together, all the tracks give the feeling of raw emotion garnished with stunning production and luxurious smooth electronic beats, indie pop, jazz, new wave, and nu-disco making this whole album a seamless experience. Trailing behind the beautifully encapsulating title is “Morpheus In The Club”. With its astonishingly hypnotic beats, it sets up the rest of the tracks and album for what’s to come. If you were to step into a futuristic club, the sense of uncanny wonder encapsulates everything around you – here reality and fiction entwine. Leading the pack of many highlights is “Killer Charisma”. The sultry, danceable track is remarkable in its own right, holding mesmerizing lyrics about self-reflection and yearning for attention mixed with an intoxicatingly groovy and funky beat. The driving track “Heartburn” brings the mood down accompanied by its haunting production, yet remains smooth at its core. The lyrics speak of regret and the unforeseen consequences that accompany it. “Disco Love” is pure fun. The track captures classic disco with a touch of modernism which makes it feel fresh and nostalgic at the same time. It’s guaranteed to make you want to move whether you’re on the dance floor or not. “Stupid Blue” takes a more nuanced approach, utilizing blues over trip-hop beats. The underlying emotion from the lyrics and vocals is what makes this song one of the strongest on the album. It dives into the depths of toxic relationships with a captivating melody that lingers long after the song has played. “Electric Nights (Biorhythm Mix)” is exciting. The mix of both synth-pop and house music pulses together giving the song level defining energy. The rhythm encapsulates the thrill of long, carefree nights filled with adventure.

“Gotta Secret (Electro Bounce Album Mix)” invokes thoughts of playfulness and a hint of mystery at the same time. The combination of whispered vocals and bouncing synths creates an essence that can be described as cinematic, almost like that of a spy movie. “Lump In Your Throat” is one of the most enjoyable songs found on the album; the lyrics combined with the stripped-down production make the listener’s experience heartfelt and intimate. “North American Philosopher” takes the listeners in another direction through experimental sound and soft atmospheric electronica combined light layers of textures resulting in otherworldy sounds. “Morpheus Interlude” offers a moment to catch one’s breath before diving right back into their journey. It’s a great piece to use as a mental break for meditation. In the lyrics of “Could Have Been (Album Mix)”, there’s an introspective side of regretful reflections of opportunities not seized: the melody is haunting, and its chorus lingers within the mind long after its conclusion. “Forget The World” creates a form of egocentrism in which the individual completely immerses themselves in music as a means of escape from reality. It is euphoric, with multi-layered or charging synthesizer strings and anthemic refrains. “Endless Summer (Ride The New Wave Mix)” is sunlit and mellow, giving off a warm gaze that is nourishing. The melodies wash over one feeling as if the ocean breeze is close at hand. “Overdrawn” deals with the emotional weight of exhaustion together with burnout. His nested harmonies and sad-sounding instrumentation remind one of the feelings of being overextended. “Meet Me On Street Corners” has an urban touch and expresses the feel of the late hours of the day as it tells us vividly of the passing moments of chance meetings and the day-to-day life in an unpredictable big city.

“Buy Me a Ticket” is a nostalgic piece of art. It’s a love song but not in an ordinary way; it’s spun around freedom, adventure, and chances. The blend of synth-pop with Cajun strummed guitar riffs blends it with spice and uniqueness. “Contra Botafogos” is fused with Latin percussions and electronic dance music. It is rhythmical, sultry, and somehow mystifying; it is full of motion and sweet energy. “Was A Light (Ethereal Version)” is ethereal and breathtakingly beautiful. The vocal and instrumental components are gentle, providing the listener with a relaxing and floating feeling, like drifting through memories. “Adonis and Aphrodite” are lively and romantic and represent the awe-inspiring and intoxicating pull of attraction and love. With “Alchemy”, everything comes back into a circle. The combination of bold, rhythmic, and sensual lyrics, both poetic and daring, completes the marvelous picture. And finally, “Morpheus (Made Of Dreams)” ends the album on a joyful note. It is richly adorned with textures, making it cinematic and immersive, and serves as a perfect end to an incredible sonic journey. Every track on this album is a stunning, individual masterpiece, but combined they create one of the most complete pieces of art of our time. In all honesty, I never thought I would be saying this, but The New Citizen Kane has outdone himself for the year.
