“VENT” by Milo Kobayashi: Raw Thoughts, Real Talk

Estimated read time 3 min read

Milo Kobayashi’s new single “VENT”, released on June 7, 2025, lives up to its title in every sense. It’s an unfiltered outpouring of raw emotion, unadulterated thoughts, and pent-up frustration, all delivered with a blunt and abrasive energy. Recorded entirely in the comfort of his own apartment studio, the song has an air of immediacy to it, like someone scrolling through your mind and hearing your thoughts in real-time. But there are no filters. Not a single one. Every word is heavy with intent, every line shaped by the daily, lived experience of what it means to be Black in America. You can hear traces of JPEGMAFIA and Donald Glover in the way Milo combines his signature blend of sarcasm, emotion, and social commentary. The tension, the humor, and the brutal honesty come through in every bar he spits.

The beat has a stripped-down, almost janky vibe to it, but it works. It feels raw, but not sloppy. The whole track comes across as one long, chaotic stream of consciousness, broken up by these pockets of thought you can get lost in. It’s not trying to be radio-friendly or have some slick hooks. This is Milo building his own lane. Using humor as both armor and sword to deflect and dissect the ins and outs of a life plagued with political unrest, cultural toxicity, and social pressures. There’s a level of personalization in the delivery that lends the whole track an intensely personal touch. It’s both political and relatable. You feel like you’re sitting down with an old friend, having one of those conversations that go deep, until all of a sudden you start questioning the nature of reality itself.

Production-wise, the track is well-done, gritty, but put together with care, all the more impressive when you realize that Milo mixed and mastered the track himself. The DIY, lo-fi aesthetic gives the whole track a unique charm to it. It’s not trying to be a glossy pop song. It’s not trying to be anything other than itself. And that’s what makes it work. Milo Kobayashi’s “VENT” is a testament to the power of music to speak truth to power. He does not mince words or soften edges. The message is direct, unapologetic, and most importantly, honest. He’s not here to please everyone. Far from it. If anything, he makes it very clear who this song isn’t for. That’s the beauty of it. It’s unfiltered, it’s real, and most importantly, it’s him. As he puts it, “Music is a journal and what you make is your entry”.
